Initial Engagement and Orientation
Beginning the process of an international adoption mental health evaluation involves an initial consultation where clients speak with Dr. Lombard to understand the purpose and procedures involved. During this consultation, clients receive an explanation of the evaluation process, its significance in the adoption journey, and what to expect throughout. Dr. Lombard discusses the importance of assessing the prospective adoptive parents’ emotional readiness, coping skills, and capacity to provide a nurturing environment for an adopted child. It’s a time for clients to ask questions, express any concerns, and gain clarity on how the evaluation will be conducted. Proverbs 15:22 advises, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” Clients find reassurance in seeking guidance and support from mental health professionals as they navigate the complexities of the evaluation process.
Assessment and Exploration
During the international adoption mental health evaluation, clients undergo a comprehensive assessment of their mental health and emotional well-being. This involves interviews, questionnaires, and psychological assessments to evaluate factors such as stress management, attachment style, and parenting expectations. Clients are encouraged to be open and honest in sharing their thoughts, feelings, and concerns, understanding that the evaluation aims to ensure the best interests of the adopted child. Dr. Lombard works collaboratively with clients to explore their readiness for the challenges and responsibilities of international adoption. Philippians 4:6-7 offers comfort, urging believers to “not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Clients find solace in turning to God in times of uncertainty and anxiety as they navigate the evaluation process.
Feedback and Support
After completing the international adoption mental health evaluation, clients receive a written report from Dr. Lombard regarding their emotional readiness and suitability for international adoption. This feedback may include insights into strengths, areas for growth, and recommendations for additional support or resources. Clients are encouraged to discuss the results openly and collaboratively with Dr. Lombard, seeking guidance on how to address any identified concerns. Romans 8:28 assures believers that “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Clients find comfort in trusting God’s plan for their adoption journey, knowing that He will guide them through the challenges and uncertainties, ultimately leading them to a fulfilling and loving relationship with their adopted child.
